What
to expect from your first treatment...
Your Chiropractor will take a full case history to regarding your
general health background as well as details of your symptoms. Following
this and upon your consent, you will be taken through a series of
neurological and orthopaedic tests. This will help in analysing
your particular problem. Your Chiropractor will then thoroughly
examine all the joints in your body, literally from head to toe,
using only their hands, making the appropriate adjustments where
necessary.
McTimoney Chiropractors have a very finely tuned sense of touch,
developed in their four years of training, which enables them to
feel for misalignments of the vertebrae and bones. Upon feeling
a problem, your Chiropractor will use one of a number of light,
swift and dextrous techniques, unique to McTimoney Chiropractic,
to adjust the bone.
If your Chiropractor discovers or suspects a problem that requires
medical investigation, they will refer you to your GP. Wherever
possible your McTimoney Chiropractor will work in co-operation with
your GP and a letter is normally sent to your doctor informing them
of your treatment.
How many treatments will you need?
The number of sessions you may need will vary considerably depending
on:
- Your age: healing times generally slow as you get older
- The length of time you have had the problem: usually a new
injury will resolve faster than one or 10 years standing.
- The type of problem: simple low back pain will often resolve
faster than a sciatic problem
Most patients need anywhere between two and ten sessions, initially
at weekly intervals, then gradually spaced out as perceivable change
is seen. Once the problem has been resolved, regular check ups are
recommended to keep your spine and joints in good order. |
